Kidnappers of the six staff members of the UNIABUJA have reportedly contacted their families and demanded a ransom of N300 million

The kidnappers of the six staff members of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) have reportedly contacted their families and demanded a ransom of N300 million.

When gunmen invaded the university’s staff quarters, Obansa Joseph, a professor of economics, two of his children, and three other people were kidnapped.

The gunmen, according to eyewitness sources, totaled around 30 people and were young males “no older than 25.” According to reports, the gunmen fired shots into the air when the attack was ongoing. The attack lasted for over two hours.

Each person abducted by the gunmen has now been charged at N50 million for their freedom.

“They are asking for N300 million collectively. I’m not aware if they were given a deadline to pay or not,” Habib Yakoob, UNIABUJA spokesman Said.

Mustapha Sambo, the son of one of the abducted people, also testified that the kidnappers demanded N100 million in ransom after they kidnapped his father.

“They took our phones and his wallet. Then they said they need money. When we said there was no money at home, they took him and said we must bring N100 million before they release him,” he said.
