The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, Kaduna State chapter, has asked the government to identify, arrest and prosecute perpetrators of violence against its people in Zangon Kataf local government area.
The association’s Director, Media and Publicity, Ibrahim Bayero Zango, while briefing newsmen in Kaduna on Thursday, said there has been a renewed wanton killing and destruction of properties belonging to Fulanis in Zangon Kataf LGA.
He also appealed to members of MACBAN to be calm, law-abiding and not take laws into their hands but allow constituted authority to enforce peace and order.
The MACBAN called on the leadership of Atyap Chiefdom and the Southern Kaduna in general to caution their subjects from attacking, killing and maiming Fulanis.
They asked the government to pay adequate compensation for the lives of their members killed during attacks. The MACBAN noted that the unprovoked attacks and killings by the Atyap communities are coming after several peace efforts that have been initiated by concerned stakeholders of Fulani, Hausa and Atyap ethnic groups in Kataf (Atyap) Chiefdom and beyond.
The association lamented the alleged deliberate destruction of Fulani settlements in the Kagarko grazing reserve by Vice Admiral Iko Ibrahim (rtd), a former Chief of Naval Staff.
They alleged the retired officer has been going about intimidating, harassing and torturing Fulani community members at the grazing reserve, on the pretext that he is the owner of over 30,000 hectares of the land.
They alleged that Vice Admiral Iko Ibrahim have been conniving with the military personnel manning roadblocks at Kagarko town, who usually enter the grazing reserve in their Hilux trucks in a commando-style, subjecting residents of the grazing reserve to series of torture, extortion and outright looting and burning of their hamlets and other valuables.
The association warned that unless drastic measures are taken by the relevant authorities to deal with the alleged antics of the Admiral, it may lead to serious security and peace breach in the grazing reserve and the entire Kagarko Local Government Area and Southern Kaduna in General.
“It is on a very sad note that our Association addresses you today.
This is in relation to the renewed wanton killings of innocent Fulani people in Zangon Kataf LGA and the destruction of their properties.
”In the past few days, there have been series of deliberately targeted killings by the Atyap communities on Fulani people including two Ardos namely: Ardo Pate Kurmi (Wakilin Fulani in the Atyap Chiefdom) and Ardo Muhammadu Anchau who were brutally killed in cold blood after embarking on a peace mission to Gora District of the Atyap Chiefdom.”
