The House of Reps has resolved to summon the Ministers of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, Health, Osagie Ehanire and Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello over non-payment of salaries of Doctors in FCT since January due to Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
The aforementioned officials are to meet with the leadership of the House on Wednesday to discuss lack of Personal Protective Equipment for doctors in the federal capital territory.
The resolution followed a motion moved by Sununu Yusuf from Kebbi State and 3 others on Tuesday during plenary.
Femi Gbajabiamila, in his reaction to the motion said that, “Health care workers in FCT who are not working at the isolation centres have no protective equipment such as face mask and hand gloves.”
He noted that the meeting was part of the intervention of the House to prevent industrial action which the Doctors have resolved to embark on by 22nd of May if proper things are not done.
“Health workers have nothing to protect themselves. Lots of them don’t have face mask, while some of them have not been paid salaries since January. It will be embarrassing if they should down their tools in this auspicious time.”
The House also asked the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to use salary donations made by the lawmakers to procure protective equipment for hospitals in Nigeria.
