In the statement, posted on Friday, Salah Khashoggi the son of Jamal Khashoggi said his family pardons those who took the reporter’s life in 2018 when he checked out the Saudi Arabia’s consulate in Istanbul.
The trials were condemned by the United Nations and rights groups. UN Special Rapporteur for extrajudicial summary or approximate executions Agnes Callamard implicated Saudi Arabia of making a “mockery” of justice by allowing the masterminds of the 2018 killing to go totally free.
” For that reason, we the sons of the Martyr Jamal Khashoggi reveal that we pardon those who murdered our dad, looking for benefit God almighty” he included.
Khashoggi was last seen at the Saudi consulate where he had gone to get the essential files for his wedding. His body was dismembered and eliminated from the structure and his remains have not been discovered.
The son of murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi has launched a statement through Twitter forgiving his killers.
Nevertheless, Salah Khashoggi said of the December verdict: “It has been fair to us and that justice has been achieved.”
” In this blessed night of the blessed month (of Ramadan) we remember God’s announcing: If an individual forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah.”
Saudi Arabia sentenced 5 people to death and 3 to jail over Khashoggi’s murder last December. The suspects were prosecuted in secretive proceedings in the capital Riyadh.
The murder triggered a worldwide uproar. Some Western governments, as well as the CIA, said they thought Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) ordered the killing.
Saudi authorities say he had no role, although in September 2019 MBS showed some personal responsibility, saying the grisly killing “happened under my watch”.
