Imo state House of assembly on Thursday May 21, rescinded the 2007 pension act which efficiently removed ex- governors, their deputies and ex- speakers of their pensions and other privileges.

Some legislators who spoke in assistance of the executive bill entitled “A bill for a law to rescind the Imo State governors and Speakers Pension and opportunities law No 5 of 2007 (as amended)”, concurred that it was needed to do away with pensions of ex-governors and speakers, to make funds readily available for other developmental jobs in the state.

The speaker of the house of assembly Chiji Collins who also shared his view about the bill, stated that though they are the very first victims of the law, the sacrifice is needed for the development of the state.
